Evolving Design System

Strengthened the system’s foundation through scalable components, robust design tokens, and consistent documentation—enabling efficient reuse and cross-brand compatibility at scale.

Curate Scalable and Reusable Components

I took ownership of transforming brand-specific components into scalable assets reusable across Dotdash Meredith’s portfolio.

I standardized the Continuous Scroll component for system-wide use, incorporating cross-brand designer input and clear override guidance.

Released in two sprints, it saved an estimated 1,200 developer hours.

Design System 2.0

As our design system matured, I helped lay its structural foundation and scale its documentation. I partnered with a developer governance group to audit and streamline design tokens—removing unused ones and eliminating a full layer of complexity.

To improve documentation efficiency, I built a Custom GPT that automated and standardized component documentation as we updated the library. This enabled us to generate over 100 high-quality documentation in a month, speeding up adoption and closing knowledge gaps across teams.

Patterns for Complex User Flows

Our design system lacked guidance for documenting complex user flows, leading to inconsistent design files and confusion during developer handoff.

To address this, I introduced a standardized approach for mapping and handing off multi-step flows, making the process clearer and more efficient for both designers and developers. I created reusable templates—like the Recipe Q&A flow—as examples that teams can adapt, improving consistency and reducing friction across projects.

Driving Adoption

To improve awareness, visibility, and collaboration around our design system, I led several initiatives that directly addressed knowledge gaps and streamlined communication across teams.

Design Tokens Workshop

I designed and delivered a workshop for all UX designers at my company, focusing on what tokens are, why they matter, and how to use them effectively. The workshop included engaging quizzes and hands-on exercises, leading to high satisfaction scores and helping unblock related complex projects.

Design System Ambassador Program

In early 2025, I launched a Design System Ambassador Program, recruiting one designer from each of our seven product teams. This created a two-way channel between the design system and product teams—allowing us to offer more targeted support and gather actionable feedback more efficiently.

Design System Changelog Workflow

To tackle the lack of visibility into our roadmap and releases, I built a Design System Changelog workflow. This included Jira changelog fields, Slackbot updates, and a Confluence page for weekly summaries—giving designers and PMs a reliable source of truth. As a result, we saw fewer inquiries to the design system team and a clearer understanding of available components.
